Abstract

This study explored the motivation of teachers in continuing professional development and engagement. It was conducted to the 31 teachers from selected schools under Kidapawan City Division. The descriptive-correlation method of research was used in the study. The respondents were identified through Purposive Random Sampling. A researcher-formulated survey questionnaire was used to gather the data needed for the study. It was revealed that teachers were motivated by their personal choice and career-related motivations and were engaged in continuing professional development. Teaching-learning process and professionalism were found to be significantly influenced by their motivation in continuing professional development. Out of the findings, it could be concluded that the teachers’ personal choices and career-related motivation led them to engage in professional development programs and activities. Availing of the programs and activities for professional development could enhance their teaching-learning process and professionalism. Hence, the higher is the frequency in availing of professional development, the higher the professionalism of teachers is gained.
