Abstract

This research study mainly aimed to discover the level of classroom management and teaching skills of teachers. It further determined the significant relationship between classroom management and the teaching skills of public elementary teachers. Lastly, this research study sought to determine the influence of classroom management on the teaching skills of public elementary teachers in terms of instructional, guidance, management, interpersonal and leadership skills. The study used descriptive-correlational research design. Research instrument for classroom management and teaching skills was adopted from the Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 42 series of 2017 and from the study of Catolos and Catolos (2017). There were 197 public elementary teachers of south district of Matalam, Cotabato who served as the respondents of the study. They were chosen through random sampling. Mean and multiple regression were utilized to determine the level of each variable and test the hypotheses of the study. Results indicate that majority of the respondents strongly agreed on the classroom management in terms of learning environment, diversity of learners, curriculum and planning, community linkages and professional engagement and professional growth and professional development. While others agreed on content knowledge and pedagogy and assessment and reporting. In like manner, most of the respondents are highly skilled in terms of guidance, management, interpersonal and leadership while some of them are skilled in instructional. Findings further revealed that teachers’ classroom management in terms of learning environment, diversity of learners, curriculum and planning, assessment and reporting, and professional growth and development have a significant relationship and significantly influence on the teaching skills in terms of instructional skills, guidance skills, and management skills. This concludes that there is a significant impact on teacher’s classroom management to the teachers’ teaching skills.
